Frank Kohanek is an experienced, tough, smart San Francisco homicide detective. A passionate, deeply caring man whose wife committed suicide some years ago. But this attitude evolves over the course of the first few episodes into a realization that the Kindred are a part of nature, they have been for eons, and they can't and shouldn't be totally exterminated.
